News 9:59 AM
Defending Thomas Cup champions China opened their campaign with an easy 5-0 hammering of Peru at the Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur with only one match - Chen Long's 31-minute 21-11, 21-8 victory over Rodrigo Pacheco - lasting more than half an hour.
Chai Biao-Zhang Nan's 21-12, 21-8 win over Pacheco-Andres Corpancho was the quickest match, lasting a mere 19 minutes as China completed all their matches in 112 minutes.
While there was no doubting the outcome, it was the way his players when about crushing Peru which pleased China's head coach Li Yongbo the most.
Speaking to the Chinese media, the former world champion said: "I'm proud our players didn't take Peru lightly. They didn't hold anything back, even after we secured an unassailable 3-0 lead.
"We are not focusing on South Korea as that match will decide the Group A champions. I hope the boys will be able to repeat today's performance."
China will meet South Korea on May 11, a day after the Koreans meet Peru.
Meanwhile, Japan survived an early scare in the Uber Cup when their top singles player, Eriko Hirose, lost 21-15, 21-12 to Germany's Juliane Schenk.
The Asian giants, however, came back strongly to register a 4-1 victory to take a step closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals. Germany will look to bounce back when they play Russia on Monday.
