Thomas Cup: China beats South Korea, India edges Australia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP): China's Olympic champion Lin Dan defeated South Korean Park Sung-hwan Tuesday to help his team top Group A in the Thomas Cup badminton championship.
Lin took 55 minutes to win the match 21-18, 25-23. China won both the other men's singles matches and one of two doubles matches for a 4-1 margin over the Koreans at Kuala Lumpur's Putra Stadium.
Both teams secured a quarterfinals berth after defeating Group A's other contender, Peru, in their opening matches.
India beat Australia 4-1 to secure a quarterfinals berth from Group D. Both sides earlier lost to Indonesia.
In women's Uber Cup matches held simultaneously, Indonesia beat Denmark 5-0 to top Group B, though both teams qualified for the quarterfinals after earlier beating Australia. Japan beat Russia 5-0 to top Group C - they both also qualified for the quarterfinals following 4-1 victories over Germany.
