WORLD SCHOOLS' BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS: Good response for schools tourney in Bulgaria

Forty five teams from 15 nations will be competing in the World Schools' Badminton Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Organised by the Bulgarian Sports Association and supported by the Bulgarian Badminton Federation, the tournament, which got underway today, is under the auspices of the International Schools Sport Federation (ISF).Belgium, Bulgaria, England, France, China, Chinese-Taipei, Iran, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey will compete in 4 different categories - 15 teams fight in the Boys´ school teams competition, 13 teams in the Girls´ School teams competition, 9 teams in the Boys´ selected teams and 8 teams compete in the Girls´ Selected teams competition - in the five-day tournament.
Each tie comprise 5 matches with 2 doubles and 3 singles. Each team consists of 4 players and 1 coach.
The tournament also incorporates a cultural programme with the participants presenting their national culture and traditions in a short program on Friday. Besides the cultural performance, participants are also taken on a tour of historical site visits.
Another interesting feature of the event, in the name of promoting goodwill and understanding, the players will also be partnered with players from different nations in a unique competition called “Friendship mixed doubles tournament”. A Fair Play Trophy will also be presented for the most impressive delegation.
The tournament ends on Sunday with the next edition to be played in Portugal in 2012.
