Pei Tty still pulls through despite dodgy knee problem

PETALING JAYA: National woman doubles shuttler Wong Pei Tty’s
dodgy knee problem resurfaced at the Macau Open yesterday.
Thankfully, she and partner Chin Eei Hui made it through to the second round.
Slight hiccup:
Malaysia’s Wong Pei Tty will be hoping for a less taxing second-round
contest.
The second seeds, however, were taken to the
distance before prevailing 21-19, 21-18 over Iris Wang-Reena Wang of the
United States in the 30-minute clash.
Having made a meal of the match against the unheralded Americans, the Malaysians will be hoping for a less testing time against Indonesians Anneke Feinya Agustine-Annisa Wahyuni in the next round.
A month ago, Pei Tty-Eei Hui went down to Vita Marissa-Melati Nadya of Indonesia in the first round of the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold and the shock defeat was attributed to Pei Tty’s knee problem.
Pei Tty-Eei Hui’s performance in the Macau Open will determine whether they will get to compete in the World Championships, which will be held in Paris from Aug 23-29.
The second seeds will be joined by the Ng sisters – Hui Lin-Hui Ern – in the second round of the Macau Open.
Hui Lin-Hui Ern defeated China’s Deng Yuting-Lu Lu 21-15, 21-11 to set up a second round meeting with seventh seeds Savitree Amitrapai-Vacharaporn Munkit of Thailand.
It was, however, the end of the road for Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei after they lost 18-21, 14-21 to South Koreans Ha Jung-eun-Jang Ye-na.
There were also mixed fortunes for Malaysia in the women’s singles event when Wong Mew Choo sailed into the second round while Lydia Cheah crashed out.
Mew Choo had to slog for a 21-17, 21-18 win over Hong Kong’s Chan Tsz Ka and will take on Cheng Shao-chieh of Taiwan for a place in the quarter-finals.
Lydia’s challenge came to an abrupt halt in the opening round after going down fighting 21-15, 13-21, 20-22 to Japan’s Sayaka Sato.
Thankfully, she and partner Chin Eei Hui made it through to the second round.
