OWNING up to one’s responsibility is the way to go for an
independent player. And Indonesian Taufik Hidayat is a testimony to
this.
Taufik has broke free from the regimented training system under the national association (PBSI) for almost two years.
While some are barely surviving, he continues to make an impact in the sport.
At the world championships in Paris, the 29-year-old’s good showing proved that he is not over the hill – just yet.
Yesterday, he had an advice for all the independent players in world badminton – to honour their responsibility as a player.
“Independent players have their own struggles.
They lack sparring partners and they no longer have a parent body to do everything for them,” he said.
“I know my obligations as an independent player and I take full responsibility in exercising them.
“There is no shortcut.”
Taufik, however, said that one must learn to enjoy the game for fulfilment and satisfaction.
“I enjoy every bit of the game. There is no pressure even if I win or lose.
“To be able to do what I like most without having to deal with unnecessary expectation is a bliss,” he said.
