KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) do not have a policy to protect the interest of professional players and neither will they interfere in any internal selection disputes faced by their affiliates.
BWF chief operating officer Thomas Lund said yesterday that the world body would strictly abide by their rules, “thus giving our members the full responsibility of selecting their players for our sanctioned tournaments”.
Lund said he was unaware of Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) decision to drop pros Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen from the World Championships, which will be held in London from Aug 8-14, although the pair had qualified on merit.
The BAM, citing current form and better results, are instead sending Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Hoon Thien How for the world meet.
“Our rules clearly state that the participation of all athletes will have to come under the national body. And we do not interfere in the internal matters of our members,” said Lund.
