KUALA LUMPUR: Doubles shuttlers Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty are eyeing to score their best results this year to get a timely boost ahead of the world championships, which will be held in London from Aug 8-14.
Eei Hui-Pei Tty have not reached the semi-finals of a Super Series event thus far this season and they will be out to pull it off at the Singapore Open, which begins today. Their best result was a quarter-final appearance in the India Open in April.
The world No. 33 pair will take on Lotte Jonathans-Paulien van Doo-remalen of Holland in the opening round today.
In the same quarter are fourth seeds Shizuka Matsuo-Mami Naito of Japan and seventh seed A. Duanganong-V. Kunchala of Thailand. The other quarter has top seeds Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna of Japan, China’s Ma Jin-Pan Pan and Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei.
Eei Hui is hoping that they will get encouraging results ahead of the world championships. Besides the Singapore Open, the duo will also take part in the Indonesia Open next week.
“We have two Super Series events before the world championships. A good outing will certainly give us a huge dose of confidence going into the championships in London,” said Eei Hui.
“But the draw is not easy on us in the Singapore Open. All the current top 10 pairs are competing and it will be a big challenge for us. We will try our best to make our first appearance in a Super Series semi-final this year.”
Eei Hui-Pei Tty are the only women shuttlers representing Malaysia in the Singapore Open.
They have been growing in strength since they resumed partnership in April after Pei Tty made a comeback to competitions after recovering from a knee surgery.
They were the finalists in the Australia Grand Prix Gold in Melbourne.
