Kantharoopan to hold mixed team championship

PETALING JAYA: Former national badminton player P. Kantharoopan, in a bid to help budding players, is organising a mixed team championship at the Selangor BA Hall on Saturday.

Sponsored by Axel, the tournament aims to promote unity and provide an opportunity for veterans and youth players to get together as well.

Promising players will also be identified and Kantharoopan is prepared to assist these players to obtain a systematic and structured coaching programme through liaison with several clubs.

Each team can register a maximum of 10 players but team nominations must include junior and veteran players.

The competition will be played over the best of three men’s doubles.

“This competition provides the perfect opportunity for the youth to interact with the older generation and we hope to attract as many teams as possible,” said Kantharoopan.

“Besides the social values, we also hope to identify some potential players to be groomed into state or national players.

“We are hopeful of placing some of these players with several clubs to help them get professional training.”

For further details on the tournament, contact Kantharoopan at 019-391 7073 or K. Krishna at 016-222 2680.
