PETALING JAYA: National shuttler Wong Mew Choo will be out to build a close bond among the women players as part of their preparation for the Uber Cup Finals, which will be held in Jakarta from May 11-18.
Team unity will Mew Choo’s main focus when the centralised training begins on April 28 at the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex.
“It is important to motivate everyone in the team so that we can achieve a common goal at the Uber Cup Finals. This is also a transition period for me and it will be good to build the rapport with my team-mates,” said Mew Choo.
Mew Choo is currently training under Misbun Sidek after ending her three-year tenure with Wong Tat Meng. She was the sole women singles player under the charge of Tat Meng.
Now, she gets to spar more often with Julia Wong, Lydia Cheah and Anita Raj Kaur, who are the other members of the Uber Cup team and training under Rashid Sidek.
And they train at the same venue where Misbun coaches Mew Choo.
But first, Mew Choo wants to get her act right after crashing out in the quarter-finals to China’s Wang Lin in the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Johor Baru.
“It was not an impressive performance from me. I was slow. I need to improve my game – especially on applying the right strategy to overcome my opponents,” she added.
