Tan Fook, Wan Wah skip Philippines Open

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles veteran pairs Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah and Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng have withdrawn from the Philippines Open, which begins on Wednesday in Manila, as a precautionary measure against the A (H1N1) virus.

With the decision, both pairs will not get a final warm-up tournament ahead of the world championships in Hyderabad in August.

They had looked forward to playing in Manila, especially after having skipped the just concluded Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold tournament in Johor Baru.

Wan Wah said that they would have to turn their attention to preparing well for their last appearance in the world championships.

Both Tan Fook-Wan Wah and Chong Ming-Choon Eng, who left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last year, had won bronze medals in the championships.
