Eei Hui-Pei Tty combination looking good ahead of World Championships

PETALING JAYA: The intensity in training has increased but women’s doubles pair Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty are holding up well and that is a good sign ahead of the World Championships in Hyderabad from Aug 10-16.

Eei Hui-Pei Tty will be the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to be top seeded for the world meet next month and hopes are high on them returning with a medal after three previous unsuccessful attempts.

The Malaysian pair have always fallen at the quarter-final hurdles and two of those losses were inflicted by the top Korean pair of Lee Hyo-jung-Lee Kyung-won.

But having defeated the Koreans en route to bagging the Indonesian Open title last month, Eei Hui-Pei Tty will certainly be looking for a breakthrough achievement at Hyderabad.

Doubles coach Rosman Razak is hoping Eei Hui-Pei Tty would bring joy to the country for the first time.

“Attention has always been on the men shuttlers but our top women’s doubles pair have shown that they too can beat the best in the world,” said Rosman.

“Eei Hui-Pei Tty have been keeping up well with boys in the last two weeks of training although the sessions have tough and long.

“We have been doing three sessions. We were worried about Eei Hui’s condition but she looks okay so far. The Mini Olympic Games should be a good warm-up for them as it is just a short competition and will allow us to gauge their match fitness before we leave for the world meet early next month.”

Eei Hui-Pei Tty are expected to face their first tough test against Japan’s Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna of Japan in the last 16.

A win will set them up against Olympic champions Du Jing-Yu Yang next.

Beating Du Jing-Yu Yang will not just ensure a medal for the Malaysian pair but also bolster their confidence to go all the way for the world title.

Eei Hui-Pei Tty made it to the semi-finals in the Singapore Open last month before claiming the Indonesian Open crown as the world No. 1.

In Jakarta, Eei Hui-Pei Tty defeated a host of top pairs, including last year’s Beijing Olympics silver medallists Kyung-won-Hyo-jung and China’s current No. 1 Cheng Su-Zhao Yunlei.

Eei Hui-Pei Tty went on to finish as runners-up in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold in Johor Baru.
