No timely boost for Tsuen Seng in Philippines Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Former international Lee Tsuen Seng participated in the Philippines Open when many other Malaysians withdrew as a precaution against the A (H1N1) flu virus.

But Tsuen Seng did not get a timely boost ahead of the World Championships, which will be held in Hyderabad next month.

Third seed Tsuen Seng was beaten in the third round, losing 9-21, 11-21 to Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki.

Two other former national players also crashed out in the third round against Chinese players. Sairul Amar Ayob was beaten by Du Pengyu while K. Yogendran lost to Chen Long.

World junior champion Chen Long went on to win his first Open title yesterday, beating Hong Kong’s Hu Yun 21-13, 21-6 in the final.

In the men’s doubles, Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold runners-up Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen failed to come good in the tournament. They were beaten 21-17, 22-24, 9-21 by China’s Sun Junjie-Tao Jiaming in the quarter-finals.
