KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles chief coach Rexy Mainaky has made some changes in a bid to strengthen the coaching set-up and to beef up the players’ line-up.
And, so far, everything is working out smoothly.
He has given Rosman Razak and Pang Cheh Chang new responsibilities by putting them in charge of both the men’s elite and back-up shuttlers while Jeremy Gan and Chang Kim Wai will continue to coach the mixed doubles and women’s doubles players.
Previously, the elite players – Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif – were directly under Rexy’s charge.
Currently, only the top women’s doubles pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty report directly to him.
Rexy said he was happy to just oversee the doubles department. He also expressed delight at the commitment shown by the coaches and players.
“I made this changes after the Malaysian Grand Prix Gold (in Johor Baru). Currently, Rosman and Pang are the ones responsible for the progress of the elite and back-up shuttlers,” said Rexy.
“For now, I will coach Eei Hui-Pei Tty and oversee all the others.
“But what is special about our arrangement is that every coach can still voice out his opinion about the other doubles players. Jeremy, for instance, can help out in the men’s doubles. All the coaches work together as a team.”
Rexy said that seasoned men’s doubles player Lin Woon Fui’s decision to leave the national team this month had also forced the coaches to make some changes to the line-up.
Woon Fui’s partner Hoon Thien How will now make his debut with Ong Soon Hock at the Macau Open in September.
Soon Hock’s partner Khoo Chung Chiat is expected to be paired up with Mohd Razif Abdul Latif.
The other pairs are showing great potential are Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Chan Peng Soon, Vountus Indra Mawan-Goh Wei Shem and Teok Kok Siang-Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid.
