Rexy plans to rebuild shattered confidence of top women’s pair

NATIONAL doubles coach Rexy Mainaky plans to rebuild the shattered confidence of world No. 1 women’s doubles pair Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty following their third round exit in the World Championships in Hyderabad on Thursday.
This, he said, was not the time to point fingers or play the blame game and break their spirit.
Eei Hui-Pei Tty lost 19-21, 21-19, 12-21 to Japan’s Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna in the third round of their fourth world outing.
“Pei Tty-Eei Hui are not the first world number one to lose in a world meet. Every world number one pairs have their bad days. So I think it is not right to blame them,” said Rexy.
“What is important now is to strengthen their position. We have to stay positive and help re-build this pair.”
Rexy said the task was to build them up to become a stronger pair – physically and mentally.
“They need to support each other better, especially when both are not playing well. This is an area we will look into,” said Rexy.
Meanwhile, Pei Tty and Eei Hui, who who have done so much to lift the standard of women’s badminton in Malaysia, are confident they would continue to improve.
“We have never looked at the world number one status as a true reflection of our standard. We knew we had a fighting chance at the world meet. Unfortunately, we were unable to come good this time,” said Pei Tty.
“We may lose the number one tag after the world meet but it also depends on how the other pairs fare here. What is more important is to stay positive and continue to work on our combination. We must work hard to be more consistent.”
Eei Hui said: “We have played together for a long time and we will always work out our differences. It is time to look ahead.”
