Rexy wants players to size up their opponents

KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles shuttlers are being primed to be better analysts of their game.
Besides court training and video viewing sessions, national chief coach Rexy Mainaky has given out some questionnaires to his doubles players to test their ability in analysing games.
Every player had to evaluate several opponents in their list and give an explanation on their strong and weak points.
“We (the doubles coaches) have given out questionnaires listing several of their main opponents, to all the doubles players. They have been told to analyse their game against the respective pairs and write the advantages and disadvantages of playing against them,” said Rexy.
“We want our doubles players to be thinking players. They should know how to analyse their game and not wait for the coaches to give the feedback all the time.
“The coaches will collect the answers and will discuss with them on how to capitalise on their strength and work on the weak points against their opponents,” he said.
The doubles players will be skipping next week’s China Masters but will be going to the Japan Open the following week.
Malaysia will be banking on the top two men’s pair of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and the top women’s pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty to win honours in Japan.
