KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian veteran Taufik Hidayat stormed into the Japan Open men’s singles final yesterday in style – literally.

Spotting his own brand of attire – with a sleeve on only one side – Taufik clawed back from a first game deficit to outplay compatriot Simon Santoso 13-21, 21-12, 21-18 in a 63-minute semi-final battle yesterday.

In today’s final, he will take on China’s Bao Chunlai, who defeated Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam 21-15, 21-16.

Since leaving the national body in January to become an independent player on the world circuit, Taufik has been busy with his own range of apparel – Taufik Hidayat Line – in partnership with Yonex.
