Danes Steen Fladberg-Jesper Helledie are a step away from claiming the men's under-50 doubles title but it was the English players who stole the limelight when they took 16 spots in the finals of the BWF World Senior Championships 2009 in Punta Umbria, Spain.
Denmark was a close second with 12 spots in the final with Germany and Japan taking nine and seven spots respectively.
The Championships attracted 708 players from 34 countries with a total of 35 categories contested. The age groups range from 35 to 65 years old.
In the under-50 men's doubles, Fladberg-Helledie, who are the No 2 seeds, continued their winning ways with another emphatic win over England's Trevor Hampson-Ian Purton, needing just 23 minutes to score a 21-13, 21-8 win and followed up with another win against compatriots Jens Dall-Hansen Ejnar Skovrup (21-7, 21-10) to check into the final.
The Danes, who also won the men's doubles title at the 1983 World Championships in Copenhagen, however, will face a stern test in the final as they will be up against top seeds Surapong Suharitdumrong-Taveesup Waranusast.
The Thais stopped England's Alan Edgley-Roger Taylor 21-16, 21-16 and Scotland's Dan Travers-Leon Douglas 21-11, 21-11 to book their place in the final.
But the day belonged to the English and are assured of at least two gold medals as the under-55 women's doubles and mixed doubles finals will be an all-English affair.
In the mixed doubles, Brian Wallwork-Betty Bartlett will take on Peter Empgate-Pamela Dallow while the women's doubles final will feature Betty Bartlett-Pauline Davis against Pamela Dallow-Linda Scrace.
In Friday's action, Wallwork-Bartlett beat compatriots Bob Bell-Janet Fletcher in a tough three-game encounter, 21-16, 16-21, 21-14 while Empgate-Dallow beat John Gardner-Pauline Davis, also from England, 21-10, 21-11 in the mixed doubles.
In the under-50 women's doubles, Bartlett-Davis beat Denmark's Vibeke Dahl-Anne-Lise Pedersen 30-29, 21-6 while Dallow-Scrace were triumphant against Japan's Kiyoko Furuhashi-Keiko Oda 21-7, 21-18.
