BWF EVENTS DIRECTOR MAKES HONG KONG OPEN DEBUT

The YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Super Series was one of the first assignments for Darren Parks, BWF’s new Events Director, who started at the KL office last week.
Parks, who comes to the BWF with a significant professional background in major event management, has hit the ground running with the last of the two Super Series events underway and the Super Series Masters Finals confirmed for Malaysia in the first week of December.
“We are very fortunate to have Darren as part of our team” BWF Chief Operating Officer Thomas Lund said of the appointment.
“And Darren will add significant experience and value to the BWF Events Department in KL” he added.
Events and event management is core business for the BWF and Parks’ experience in major badminton events is a boost to the BWF as it look to re-cast its major events focus, building a stronger brand for its events and realizing better commercial returns for the BWF through major event development.
Parks comes to the BWF with significant experience as Head of Competitions & Events for Badminton England, a position he has held for more than eight years. Parks was also Championships Director for the 2003 BWF World Badminton Championships held at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham and has been the Championships Director for the annual YONEX All England Championships since 2003. It is this experience that will be utilized to assist the BWF shape the pathway for event development.
