ODENSE: Women’s doubles defending champions Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty paid the price for not sticking to the game plan when they booted out of the Denmark Open quarter-finals on Friday.
The world number two pair failed to keep the momentum going after a great start to lose 21-11, 17-21, 12-21 to China’s Pan Pan-Zhang Yawen in 57 minutes.
Pei Tty admitted that they had let slip a good chance of making it to the semi-finals because of their own folly.
“We were either impatient or inconsistent during the long rallies. The quality of our shots just dropped drastically. We used to be quite relaxed in our approach previously,” said Pei Tty.
“This scratch pair from Chinese did well to read our game despite them playing against us for the first time. We had the advantage but failed to make full use of it.”
Pei Tty also admitted that “something” had gone wrong in her combination with Eei Hui and that it needed to be looked into.
“We used to be good in our defensive play but it is quite porous now. We are not consistent in this area of our game and this really affects our confidence,” said Pei Tty.
Eei Hui hoped that they would fare better at the France Open in Paris next week.
“It is always a challenge to play against a China pair. We gave them too much room to put pressure on us,” said Eei Hui.
“It be another challenge in Paris. Hopefully, we will be more consistent with they way we approach the game.”
The duo are the top seeds in Paris, where they are expected to face the more formidable Chinese pair of Ma Jin-Wang Xiaoli, whom they have never beaten before.
