DR KANG DONATES KWN100 MILLION TO UNICEF

Badminton World Federation (BWF) president Dr Kang Young Joong, who is also chairman of the World Youth & Culture Foundation, has donated 100 million Korean Won (approximately USD87,000) to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Committee Korea to help quake victims in Haiti rebuild their lives.

The earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, hit Haiti on Jan 12 killing an estimated 150,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands more homeless. kang-unicef-korea

The UNICEF has launched a massive donation drive in order to provide resources to help some 3.5 million people affected by the earthquake over the next six months.

“We all need to join our hands and help countries around the globe that suffer from natural disasters recover regardless of ideological or national boundaries,” said Dr Kang.

“In particular, all children on earth need to be able to fully enjoy their rights to be educated regardless of the condition or environment in which they live.”

The World Youth & Culture Foundation, since its founding in 2007, has been conducting sports related public-interest programs, especially badminton, and academic and artistic scholarship programs for youths in developing countries.

The Foundation is also implementing various activities in order to give a better life to the children and youths around the world, including the donations to Myanmar when it was hit hard by the cyclone and to Sichuan, China when it was devastated from the massive earthquake back in 2008.
