BEIJING: It is all in the mind of badminton star Lin Dan
whether he wants to win a fourth world championship title, says Chinese
chief coach Li Yongbo.
He said that Lin Dan was a unique player with strong personality and a winning character that few of his contemporaries could match.
“If he wants the world title in Paris, he will get it. It’s only a question of how many percentage of will he has and how much he wants to win it,” Yongbo was quoted by Sina.com as saying recently.
The world No. 3 is the defending champion in the tournament in Paris from Aug 23-29. Lin Dan became the first player to win a third consecutive world title when he beat Chen Jin in the final in Hyderabad last year.
But his path to set a new record in winning the title the most number times will not be an easy one.
Lin Dan is in the same half of the draw as world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and he may play against compatriot Bao Chunlai in the third round.
“I think he is hoping to rewrite history and produce something which is hard for others to surpass. He is more mature now and cherishes the remaining life span of his athletic career,” Yongbo said.
