KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles shuttler Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd
Tazari has made a quick recovery from a hand injury to reach the
quarter-finals of the French Open in Paris.
After pulling out of last week’s Denmark Open in Odense following an injury to his right hand in the last 16, Fairuzizuan and his partner Ong Soon Hock cleared the first two rounds of the Super Series event in Paris.
Fairuzizuan-Soon Hock defeated Bruno Cazau-Gregoire Louis of France 21-6, 21-6 and Lukasz Moren-Wojciech Szkudlarczyk of Poland 21-14, 15-21, 21-11 in the first and second rounds respectively.
They will now have to beat Germans Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schottler to assure a place in their first Super Series semi-finals.
Former internationals Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen also made it to the last eight but they are unlikely to go through as they will face second seeds Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia.
It was the end of the road for Malaysia’s two other pairs – Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Hoon Thien How and Teo Kok Siang-Goh Wei Shem.
Zakry-Thien How lost 16-21, 21-13, 14-21 to Denmark’s Jonas Rasmussen-Mads Conrad-Petersen in the opening round while back-up shuttlers Kok Siang-Wei Shem went down fighting 21-15, 14-21, 16-21 to top seeds and reigning Denmark Open champions Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen in the second round.
Malaysia are only competing in the doubles event in the French Open.
