Korean Open: Lin Dan downs Chong Wei to pocket US$90,000

SEOUL: China’s Lin Dan won US$90,000 - the richest winner's cheque in badminton history - when he beat Lee Chong Wei 21-19, 14-21, 21-16 in the Korean Open on Sunday.
Tne thrilling final lasted a gruelling 73 minutes.
Lin Dan won the first set 21-19 in 26 minutes against Chong Wei.
The Chinese ace was hardly in trouble in the first set and had the upper hand all the way.
Although Chong Wei took the lead briefly at 13-12, Lin Dan regained control again to forge ahead 17-15.
With the score tied at 18-18, Chong Wei misjudged a return to the back of the court by Lin Dan.
This proved to be costly as Lin Dan won the next two points to wrap up the set.
Chong Wei, however, came out flying in the second set.
Before long he was 14-10 ahead and extended his lead to 17-13 and 19-14.
The Malaysian and world No. 1 player then wrapped up the set 21-14 in 22 minutes when Lin Dan put the shuttle into the net while attempting a forehand return.
The rubber set was closely-fought, being tied at 5-5, 10-10 before Chong Wei went ahead 14-13.
But Lin Dan fought back to lead 17-16 and 19-16 before winning 21-16 in 25 minutes.
