Only Choong Hann makes the cut for the semis in Basel

PETALING JAYA: Veteran Wong Choong Hann was the sole Malaysian
survivor after the quarter-final matches at the Swiss Open in Basel on
Friday.
The former national No. 1 turned back the years to pull
off a 21-11, 21-15 win over top seeded Dane Jan O Jorgensen. The
34-year-old was up against fourth seed Park Sung Hwan of South Korea in
the semi-finals yesterday.
Two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs failed to make it past the quarter-finals.
Chan
Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying were unable to maintain their good form against
second seeds Nathan Robertson-Jenny Wallwork of England and they were
beaten 7-21, 21-18, 16-21.
The other pair, Ong Jien Guo-Chong
Sook Ching, also lost in three games, going down 16-21, 21-13, 11-21 to
fourth seeds Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen of Denmark.
