WILSON SWISS OPEN 2010: Koo-Tan disappointed, China take three

Korea and China were the only winners as the curtains came down on the WILSON Swiss Open in Basel on Sunday. China bagged three gold medals, winning the men’s singles, women’s singles and women’s doubles titles.
Korea, on the other hand, claimed the men’s doubles gold after a superb run by Ko Sung Hyun-Yoo Yeon Seong in the tournament culminating with their first ever Super Series title of their career and the mixed doubles title.
Ko-Yoo beat top seeds and World No 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia in straight games 21-18, 21-16. 
The Malaysians have only themselves to blame as they missed the opportunity to draw level in the second game despite taking a 13-6 lead.
The Koreans played with controlled aggression and clawed their way back into the game, dropping just another three points before wrapping up the match and the title.
Ko-Yoo, unseeded in Basel, were impressive in their run up to the finals, earning the scalps of World Championships silver medallists Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae and All England champions Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen.
For Koo-Tan, while they fared better than the All England, where they were bundled out in the first round, they will be disappointed as the Malaysians were gunning for their third Swiss Open title.
Korea’s second title was in the mixed doubles through Lee Yong Dae-Lee Hyo Jung, the Olympic champions.
They beat Shin Baek Cheol-Yoo Hyun Young 21-14, 21-18 in all Korea final.
In the men’s singles, Chen Jin got the better off Chen Long to claim his first title of the year via a 12-21, 21-15, 21-17 victory.
China’s Wang Shixian, the No 6 seeds, beat her compatriot Jiang Yanjiao, the No 2 seed, for the title while Du Jing-Tian Qing fought off the challenge from Japan’s Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna to take the women’s doubles title.
