Chong Wei thrilled over chance to teach children

PETALING JAYA: Having never had the opportunity to learn badminton from some of his idols while growing up as a kid, shuttler Lee Chong Wei was really overwhelmed in imparting some of his knowledge to nearly 100 Under-16 school kids from SMK USJ4, SMK USJ8, SMK USJ12, SMK USJ 13 and SMK USJ23 yesterday.
Chong Wei, the 100PLUS brand ambassador, together with his coach Misbun Sidek, took part in a coaching clinic at USJ23, the first in a series of nation-wide clinics.
Chong Wei will conduct another three badminton coaching clinics but the one he is looking forward to the most is at his home venue in Penang.

“While growing up in Penang, I used to admire many of the national players but never got the opportunity to get tips from them. That is why conducting the 100PLUS coaching clinics is such a joy for me,” said the All-England champion.
“I’m looking forward to going back to Penang to conduct the clinic.
“I’m not sure when that will be as 100PLUS have not finalised the dates as they do not want to distrupt my Thomas Cup training.
“I love interacting with the kids. As can be seen from the turn-out today, sports can help the 1Malaysia concept as there were Malay, Chinese and Indian kids at the clinic. They all mixed around and enjoyed themselves.”
