BAM take action in light of recent developments

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) honorary secretary Ganga Rao was removed from his position yesterday.
The BAM president, Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Salleh, made the announcement in a statement and said that immediate action needed to be taken in light of recent developments within the association.
“On this note, it is with regret that I hereby announce that Ganga Rao has been terminated from the position of honorary secretary of the association and be relieved from all BAM duties,” he said.
“Admittedly, it is a very difficult decision to make but it is deemed imperative in order for the BAM to proceed with the necessary fact finding.”
Nadzmi reiterated that the latest developments would not affect the preparations for the upcoming Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals in Kuala Lumpur next month.
“The preparations for the Finals are being carried out as planned and tickets have already been put up on sale,” he said.
“We will also be launching the tournament website soon. Rest assured that we are very focused and will continue to work hard to ensure a successful organisation of the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.”
It was reported recently that Nadzmi had suspended Ganga for alleged misconduct relating to the signing of a lucrative sponsorship deal. Ganga, who is into his second term as honorary secretary, later denied that he was trying to overshadow Nadzmi by making all the decisions.
Prior to the All-England last month, the BAM had secured a sponsorship deal with ING Insurance Bhd to become the official sponsors of the national team.
The national team were previously funded by Proton, who remain as the national body’s main sponsors as far as hosting of local and international tournaments are concerned.
