SOUTH Korea are ready to break new ground in badminton by offering more than US$1mil in prize money for their Open tournament.
And the move, if it comes to fruition, is set to put the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to shame.
The biggest prize money offered by BWF to date is the US$500,000 for the Super Series Masters Final.
The www.badzine.info website picked up an article from Korea's Yonhap News Agency which reported that Badminton Korea Association (BKA) had submitted their application to be one of the Super Series hosts for next year's season by offering US$1.2mil prize money.
The date of application for all aspiring hosts of the Super Series ended on May 7.
The Super Series committee have been holding meetings throughout the week during the ongoing Thomas Cup Finals in Kuala Lumpur to decide on the hosts and format for next year's new Super Series season.
One of the world federation's officials said that they were still contemplating whether to accept South Korea's offer.
The BWF have been hosting the 12-leg Super Series for the last three years, with South Korea offering the highest prize money of US$300,000.
