Buoyed by the success of the 2010 Victor Chinese Taipei Morning Cup International Badminton Championships which concluded on 12 April, organisers of the tournament are looking at a bigger event next year.
Some 2300 players from 12 countries competed in the three-day event with Badminton World Federation Deputy President Paisan Rangsikitpho and BWF Council member Justian Suhandinata amongst those who participated in the tournament. In fact, another BWF Council member Wu Jun Yan from Chinese Taipei was the main person behind the success of the tournament.
“The tournament was a huge success given the logistics involved and the high number of competitors but the organisers did well to ensure a smooth tournament,” said Paisan.
“The wide range of age categories also ensured a good mix of players and due credit must be given to them for keeping pace with the hectic schedule.”
The tournament catered for players from the ages of 25 to 90. It was also the first time that Victor Sports joined the tournament as the title sponsor.
Highlight of the tournament was the bonus grand prize of a Mercedes Benz car which was awarded to the player who emerged champion for 10 consecutive years.
“It is my mission to promote badminton globally, and the Morning Cup means a lot to me since the Wu’s family initiated the tournament 39 years ago,” said Jun Yan.
“The popularity has encouraged us to work harder and we will redouble our efforts to make it an even greater international event in the near future.”
