Sony stops Chong Wei, again!

Sony Dwi Kuncoro proved, once again, to be World No 1 Lee Chong Wei’s nemesis when the Indonesian stopped him in the quarter-finals of the Li Ning Singapore Open while Singapore’s Shinta Mulia Sari-Yao Lei continued their dream run by qualifying for the semi-finals.
India’s P. Kashyap also continued his march when he beat compatriot Arvind Bhat to check into the semi-finals and will take on Sony. The other semi-final will feature Denmark’s Peter Gade and Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana. 
But the fans who turned up to see Chong Wei in action were left disappointed as the Malaysian crashed to a 21-7, 19-21, 15-21 defeat despite leading 15-12 in the second game.
Sony, who was hampered by a back injury during the Thomas Cup Finals last month, showed no signs of the injury as he slowly got back into the game to end Chong Wei’s campaign in Singapore.
“I couldn’t find my rhythm today and it cost me the match,” offered Chong Wei.
But local fans had plenty cheer in the women’s doubles when Shinta Mulia Sari-Yao Lei beat India’s Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa 21-11, 21-19 to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Singaporeans will take on Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Wen Hsing-Chien Yu Chin for a place in the final.
Malaysia’s bad run continued when its sole remaining pair was knocked out in the men’s doubles as well when Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen fell to a 17-21, 10-21 defeat to South Korea’s Ko Sung-hyun-Yoo Yeon-seong. The Koreans had beaten top seeds Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong on Thursday.
Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong will take on Howard Bach-Tony Gunawan of United States while Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan will face off with Taiwan’s Fang Chieh-min-Lee Sheng-mu in the semi-final match.
