Juniors Hao Jian and Zheng Lin qualify for main draw

BOOSTED by their inclusion in the team for the Asian Junior Championships next month, the doubles pair of Goh Hao Jian-Pang Zheng Lin made it to the men’s doubles main draw of the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold championships yesterday.
Hao Jian-Zheng Lin fended of a strong challenge from the scratch combination of former internationals K. Yogendran-Yeoh Kay Bin and won 21-12, 16-21, 21-16 in the qualifying tournament.
They will take on former internationals Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen in the first round of the tournament proper.
The Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) duo, who train under coach Yap Kim Hock, are seen as one of the good bets to challenge for honours in the Asian Juniors, which will be held at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara from July 12-19.
Another BJSS boys’ pair, Ow Yao Han-Yew Hong Kheng, also made the main draw.
Two mixed doubles pairs — Yao Han-Lai Pei Jing and Yang Li Lian-Teo Ee Yi — also made the grade.
In the men’s singles, the Malaysian qualifiers for the main draw are Misbun Ramdan Misbun, Mohd Syawal Mohd Ismail, Lim Sheng Yu, Loh Wei Sheng, Zairul Hafiz Zainuddin, Wong Kin Yik and Yogendran.
In the women’s singles, only Li Lian and Tee Jing Yee made it to the tournament proper and will have matches today against Chen Jiayuan of Singapore and Megumi Taruno of Japan respectively.
