Hao Jian-Zheng Lin fended of a strong challenge from the scratch combination of former internationals K. Yogendran-Yeoh Kay Bin and won 21-12, 16-21, 21-16 in the qualifying tournament.

Moving on: Goh Hao Jian goes for a smash as Pang Zheng Lin looks on during their qualifying match against K.Yogendran-Yeoh Kay Bin yesterday. Hao Jian- Zheng Lin won 21-12, 16-21, 21-16 to reach the tournament proper.

They will take on former internationals Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen in the first round of the tournament proper.

The Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) duo, who train under coach Yap Kim Hock, are seen as one of the good bets to challenge for honours in the Asian Juniors, which will be held at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara from July 12-19.

Another BJSS boys’ pair, Ow Yao Han-Yew Hong Kheng, also made the main draw.

Two mixed doubles pairs — Yao Han-Lai Pei Jing and Yang Li Lian-Teo Ee Yi — also made the grade.

In the men’s singles, the Malaysian qualifiers for the main draw are Misbun Ramdan Misbun, Mohd Syawal Mohd Ismail, Lim Sheng Yu, Loh Wei Sheng, Zairul Hafiz Zainuddin, Wong Kin Yik and Yogendran.

In the women’s singles, only Li Lian and Tee Jing Yee made it to the tournament proper and will have matches today against Chen Jiayuan of Singapore and Megumi Taruno of Japan respectively.
