Malaysian Open the platform to test Khe Wei-Vivian

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Open will be the perfect platform for Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo to assess their future in the women’s doubles event.
Khe Wei has been paired up with Vivian for the first time in the Malaysian Open, which will begin at the Putra Stadium from Jan 19-24.
And they may have a chance of setting up an all-Malaysian affair with the country’s top pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty in the second round of the tournament.
“Our coach (Chang Kim Wai) wants me to give it a shot with Vivian. It will be a whole new experience for us. We have to test our compatibility in a tournament. So far, we are shaping up well in training,” said Khe Wei.
“It will be great if we can face Eei Hui-Pei Tty. It will give us an indication on how much we need to improve and how far we have to go in order to be at the same level as them.”
But first, Khe Wei-Vivian will have to overcome a first round match against Taiwan’s Chang Hsin-yun-Cheng Shao-chieh.
Khe Wei said that her goal was to represent Malaysia in the Uber Cup Finals with Vivian in May. Currently, Malaysia is devoid of a solid second ranked pair.
Khe Wei had formed a scratch partnership with Ng Hui Lin at the Laos SEA Games last month and they put up an incredible fight to clinch the winning point against Indonesia that saw Malaysia bagging the team gold for the first time in 34 years.
“There is more depth in the women’s doubles department. But now we have to build on a solid pair. My partnership with Vivian is permanent and, hopefully, we will be able to improve in every tournament that we compete in,” she said.
