BAM will monitor coaches to ensure fairplay

KUALA LUMPUR: Misbun Sidek made his first public appearance together with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) officials and world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei at an award function organised by Astro Arena on Sunday night.
And it may be taken as a positive sign of Misbun making a return to the national fold to coach the back-up players, including his son Ramdan.
Despite the possibility of allowing a father to coach his son, the BAM are confident that they have the right mechanism to ensure a fair and just selection process in their set-up.

The BAM president, Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, said yesterday that their coaching and training committee would monitor the coaches and ensure that there would be check and balances, especially in the selection of players for competitions.
“If Misbun gets to coach his son, questions may arise on selection. A coach can assess and select players for international tournaments but the final say is with the coaching and training committee,” he said.
“We will ensure that equal treatment is given to all players. We surely do not want to practice nepotism.”
Nadzmi added that Misbun and all the other coaches would be subjected to the same procedures.
“The BAM want the best for the players. The players will be judged on their ability. We will ensure that all players are treated in a fair and just manner,” he said.
Besides Ramdan, Misbun will also train several other back-up players and their names will be finalised at the BAM’s exco meeting on Thursday.
Misbun quit his job on Dec 31 but withdrew his resignation three months later to resume a task to prepare Chong Wei for the 2012 London Olympics.
But surprisingly, Chong Wei announced that he had grown comfortable training under Teh Seu Bock and Rashid Sidek. This led the BAM to select a new group of players to come under the charge of Misbun.
